52　ask/ ask for
　�、�. ask vt “問”后接一個賓語或雙賓語。如：
　�、貲on’t ask me, I don’t know.別問我，我不知道。
　　②Ｔhen ask your friend the same questions.然后問你的朋友同樣的問題。
　　Ⅱ. ask vi “要求”“邀請”。后接不定式或復合句賓語。如：
　�、貶e asked to join the PLA. 他要求參加人民解放軍。
　�、赥he villagers always ask them to stay for lunch. 鄉親們總是請他們留下來吃午飯。
　�、�. ask for “要求找到某人或某物”在不同情況下有不同的譯法。如：
　�、貶e sat down and asked for a cup of tea. 他坐下來要了一杯茶。
　�、贚ast time Mum asked for some glasses in a shop. 上次媽媽在一家商店里要買幾只玻璃杯。
　�、�. ask sb for sth “向某人要某物”如：
　�、貼ow ask your partner for the answers.向你的搭檔要答案去。
　�、贖e came and asked me for his bike.他來向我要他的自行車。
　　§53　asleep/ sleep / sleepy
　�、�. asleep adj “睡著的”；常作表語。如：
　�、賂he children have been asleep.孩子們已睡著了。
　�、贖e was too tired and fell asleep at once.他太累了，立刻就睡著了。
　�、�. sleep v & n “睡著”。如：
　　①You have a good sleep. 你需要好好睡一覺。
　　②Last night I sleep very well. 我昨天晚上睡得很好。
　�、�. sleepy adj “困乏的、想睡的”。如：
　�、賁he is always sleepy. 她總是想睡覺。
　�、贗 feel very sleepy now. 我現在昏昏欲睡。
　　§54　at Christmas/ on Christmas
　�、�. at Christmas 表示“在圣誕節期間”，既可以表示在圣誕節當天，也可以表示在圣誕節前后不久。如：
　　I’ll return at Christmas 我將在圣誕節期間回來。
　�、�. on Christmas 則指“在圣誕節”，一般僅指在十二月二十五日當天。如：
　　Children always get many presents on Christmas Day.在圣誕節孩子們總是收到許多圣誕節禮物。
　　[注]：on Christmas Eve 指的是“在圣誕節前夜”相當于中國的除夕。
　　§55　at first/ first
　　Ⅰ. at first “起初”，多用來表示后來發生的事情或動作，與前面的不同，甚至相反。如：
　　At first she knew nobody but now she has many good friends.起初她誰也不認識，但現在她有很多朋友。
　�、�. first 用來表示一系列動作或事物的“開始”。如：
　　Be polite. First knock at the door and then go in.要有禮貌。先敲門，再進去。
　　§56　at last/ finally/ in the end
　�、�. at last “最后”表經過一定曲折之后某事才發生，強調努力的結果，帶有較強的感情色彩。須用一般過去時。如：
　　Did the man in the shop understand him at last?
　�、�. finally 表動作的發生順序是在“最后”， 無感情色彩，只用于過去時。它居句首時較多。
　　①Finally he went to see the famous man himself.
　�、�. in the end 表事物發展的自然順序的“終結”，有時可與finally相互替換。但用于將來的預測時，則只能用in the end 如：
　�、買 hope that everything will turn out all right in the end.
　　§57　at school/ in school/ in a (the) school
　�、�. at school表示“在學校、在上學”相對于在家里或在校外。如：
　�、費y son is at school now. He is not at home or somewhere else. 我兒子現在在學校，他不在家，也不在別的地方。
　�、赪hen my brother was at school, he studied very hard.在學校時，我兄弟學習很用功。
　�、�. in school “在求學、在上學”相對于有工作。如：
　　My daughter still in school She doesn’t work.。我女兒還在上學，她不在工作。
　　[注]：①和②用at school 強調所在場所或時間。③中的in school 則強調主語的身份是學生。因此，in school. 和 at school的著重點不一樣，通常不互換使用。
　�、�. In a / the school “在學�！�，不一定指上學。類似的還有：
　　in hospital “生病住院”
　　in a / the hospital表“在醫院”（工作或探視病人等）
　　at table “在吃飯”
　　at a / the table “在桌邊”(有可能在聊天或看報）
　　① Is your friend in school? 你的朋友在上學嗎？
　�、資our friend looked for you in the school just now.剛才你的朋友在學校里找你。
　�、贑hildren are often in hospital when they are young. 孩子們小的時候經常生病住院。
　　③She is a good doctor in the hospital.她是醫院里的一名好大夫。
　　§58　at the beginning/ at the beginning of/ in the beginning
　�、�. at the beginning 和 in the beginning都可表“起初、開始、原先”之意。兩者間沒有明顯的區別，通�？苫�換。如：
　�、資ou’ll find it difficult to learn Russian at the beginning. 起初，你會覺得俄語很難。
　�、贗n the beginning I didn’t know this.開始我不知道這事。
　　Ⅱ. 若表當今世界的開頭，則必須用in the beginning  eg:
　　In the beginning there were no men nor animals nor plants.在盤古開天辟地時，既沒有人，也沒有 動植物。
　�、�. at the beginning of “在……之初”， 其后通常 接表時間，事件或其它意義的名詞，其反義詞組為at the end of. 如：
　�、貯t the beginning of 1975 he came back to China.1975年初，他回到了中國。。
　　②This adverb can also be placed at the beginning of  the sentence.這副詞也可以放在句子的開頭。
